What are Live Rotifers? Rotifers are microscopic organisms that form one of the most basic links in the aquatic food chain. Specific strains of rotifers are being aquacultured intensively and have been used to raise over countless species of marine fish, corals and invertebrates. Almost any marine aquarium will benefit from the addition of rotifers.
Which Rotifers Do You Stock? We stock Brachionus plicatilis (L-type) saltwater rotifers which are about 120 micron in size.
How Many Live Rotifers Will I Receive? Our live rotifers are cultured in saltwater with a specific gravity of 1.023 and are maintained at a population density of about 400 rotifers per ml of water. That means that you will receive approximately 384,000 rotifers.
What Does Enriching Mean? Enriching means feeding a premium food that contains fatty acids (especially ARA, EPA and DHA), carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamins. This process is known as “gut loading”. When our rotifers are enriched, this does not only fill the gut but the enrichment feed is gradually incorporated into the rotifer tissues.
Storage DO NOT FREEZE! Keep refrigerated for up to 7 days between 34° – 39°F (1 – 4°C). After 7 days majority of your rotifers will be dead.
